Atlanta’s All-Star team, the Dirty South Derby Girls, are taking on the Blue Ridge Rollergirls in the first game of the double-header. Blue Ridge met Atlanta three times before, once in 2008 when they lost to the Apocalypstix, and twice in 2012 with a solid win over the Sake Tuyas and the Rumble Bs. DSDG is coming off an amazing 2012 season that culminated in taking second place at the regional playoffs and a trip to WFTDA Championships. To build on the awesome, DSDG has added four new players this year – Nattie Long Legs, PixelHated, Jean-Juke Picard, and returning veteran Amelia Scareheart.
Blue Ridge became a member of WFTDA early in 2012, and are making their first All-Star matchup with ATL. They’ve had some big wins against higher ranked teams lately, and they’re looking to systematically climb the rankings to put themselves into Division 1 playoff contention.. Do they have what it takes to go up against one of the best teams in the South?
The last time The Apocalypstix and Sake Tuyas met, it was a tight game that came down to the last few jams. The Stix came out on top by 30 points, but throughout the season, the Sakes stepped up their game. The Sakes finished the season in second place, while the Stix took fourth.
Plagued by injuries last year, the Stix have a deep roster for Armageddon in 2013 – rookie Feral Brady, and transfers Ida Backoff and Genie in a Battle make their ARG debut; veterans Demi Gore and Elle Beaux return to the track; and although the Stix lost Afro Dykee to the Demons, they gained Totalitiffian. The Sakes have a powerhouse lineup of deadly geishas with the return of veteran Amelia Scareheart from the Paris Rollergirls and the addition of rookie rockstar Fullatrix Lestrange.
This longtime rivalry is going to heat up the Shriner’s Auditorium!
