July 25, 2009: To The Max!

Bout One: DSDG 74 vs. Denver Mile High Club 299

In the first bout of the evening, Atlanta’s own Dirty South Derby Girls faced off against the Mile High Club, Denver’s all-star team. The ladies from Denver took a commanding lead, scoring 20 points in the first jam. DSDG tried to rally with some impressive footwork by their jammers, but couldn’t gain any headway against such fierce opposition. The Denver girls used a controversial new strategy that allowed them to rack up points, but left many fans confused and disappointed by the lack of action. Atlanta had a hard time adapting to the sluggish pacing and spent a good deal of time in the penalty box. In the end, the Mile High skaters proved to be unstoppable and prevailed with an imposing score of 299 to 74.

Bout Two: Apocalypstix 79 vs. Denim Demons 100

The second bout of the night pitted the Denim Demons against the Apocalypstix in a crucial battle for dominance. The stakes were high — the winner of this bout would go on to face the Toxic Shocks in the Championship Bout. Both teams seemed evenly matched in the first few jams but the Demons soon pulled ahead and maintained their lead throughout the first period. The Stix were not going down without a fight, and they clawed their way back in the second half, eventually pulling ahead by 2 points. But the Demons were determined to have a repeat of last year’s champ bout match-up, and they stepped up their level of game play. The Stix tried valiantly to catch up, but the brutal ladies of the Denim Demons were victorious with a final score of 100 to 79.
