May 16, 2009: Armed and Dangerous

Bout One: DSDG 200 vs. Dominion Derby Girls 58
The Dirty South Derby Girls (Atlanta’s All-Stars) were primed and ready to take on the Dominion Derby Girls from Norfolk, Virgina, in Atlanta’s fourth double-header event of the 2009 Season. Coming off a overwhelming defeat by the legendary Texecutioners earlier this month, DSDG was hungry for a win and would let nothing get in their way.
Dominion started the game on fire, taking the lead in the first few jams. But it did not take long for Atlanta to get warmed up and kick it into high gear. While both teams spent a considerable amount of time in the penalty box, Dominion’s jammers could not conquer DSDG’s defensive strategy and walls. The Atlanta All-Stars hit the double century mark and took the win with a final score of 200 to 58.
MVPs were awarded to Juju (DSDG) for her excellent ability to both block and jam and TurboVision (Dominion) for her superstar jamming and amazing endurance in all of her back-to-back jams.
Bout Two: Apocalypstix 123 vs. Sakes 72
In the second bout, home teams the Apocalypstix and the Sake Tuyas faced off in a fight for their first intra-league win. The Sakes started the game strong pulling ahead after the first few jams. But the Apocalypstix didn’t give up, narrowing the Sakes’ lead and eventually taking the lead with a score of Apocalypstix 58 and Sakes 43 at the half.
The Stix came into the second half stronger than ever. Some bench confusion on the Sake side and a couple of power jams for the Stix allowed them to increase their lead even further. But the Sakes never gave up, pushing their hardest in each jam and slowly chipping away at the Stix growing lead. Ultimately, the Stix prevailed with a solid and consistent game that enabled them to push the score to the final numbers of 123 to 72.
MVPs were awarded to Switchblade Siouxsie (Sakes) for her awesome jamming and unstoppable endurance and to Shannihilator (Stix) for numerous blocker and jammer take-outs.
