Bout One – Atlanta DSDG 124 vs. Kansas City Roller Warriors 111
The Roller Warriors from Kansas City wielded their weapons against Atlanta’s Dirty South Derby Girls for the first bout of the evening. These closely ranked teams (KC is #2 in South Central, Atlanta is #3) each knew they had a strong battle ahead of them, and both took that fighting instinct to the track. An injury for Kansas City during warm-up didn’t slow them down, and they held a lead on Atlanta well into the first half. Atlanta went on a scoring run right at the end of the first half to pull into the lead. The second half started with Kansas City holding on tight, unwilling to let Atlanta control game play. But the Roller Warriors were not successful in regaining the lead; with power jams by Wheelin’ Jennings and The Merchant of Menace, the Dirty South Derby Girls sent Kansas City packin’ with a final score of 124 – 111. MVPs were Alassin Sane for DSDG and BruzHer for KCRW.
Bout Two – Toxic Shocks 93 vs. Denim Demons 116
The Toxic Shocks and the Denim Demons wheeled onto the track, each team undefeated in the season thus far. With both teams hungry to hold on to their winning streak, this was sure the be a devilish duel to the death. The Demons skated off with the lead, holding the Shocks at 13 – 0 well into the first half. Shocks’ jammer Harper Lethal and substitute jammer Nora Gretz helped to rack up some points right before half time, giving the Shocks a better chance at pulling ahead. The Demons, however, continued to dominate in the second half with strong jams by Deathskull and Demanda Rumble. The Demons took the win, remaining undefeated and leaving the Shocks green with envy over a final score of 116 – 93. MVPs were Switchblade Siouxsie for the Demons and Harper Lethal for the Shocks.
